TECNO has officially unveiled its second-generation foldable smartphones, the Phantom V Fold 2 and Phantom V Flip 2, aimed at making waves in the competitive foldable smartphone market. These devices bring a blend of innovation, power, and affordability, offering an enticing alternative to higher-end models from brands like Samsung and Huawei. Both phones feature a range of advanced features, from large displays and AI enhancements to long-lasting batteries and quick charging, setting a new standard for budget-friendly foldable devices.

Phantom V Fold 2: Powerful book-style foldable
The Phantom V Fold 2 builds upon its predecessor with significant upgrades. It sports a 7.85-inch LTPO AMOLED main display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, while the 6.45-inch cover display maintains the same high-quality AMOLED technology and refresh rate. The phone’s thin bezels and slim hinge design add to its sleek appearance, making it both lighter and more compact than many foldable competitors.
Fueling the device is the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ SoC, paired with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage, offering users plenty of power for multitasking. The 5,750mAh battery is a standout feature, boasting 70W wired charging and 15W wireless charging, allowing the device to reach 50% charge in just under 20 minutes. TECNO claims the foldable hinge is designed to withstand up to 400,000 folds, ensuring durability.

The Phantom V Fold 2 also introduces TECNO’s first stylus, the Phantom V Pen. Weighing only 10 grams, the pen includes buttons for various tasks, such as turning pages and controlling music. With an 80mAh battery, it offers up to two weeks of use with daily charging. However, it must be charged separately, as the foldable itself lacks integrated pen charging.

The camera system on the Phantom V Fold 2 is equally impressive. It features three 50MP rear cameras: a main camera with a 1/1.3-inch sensor, a portrait camera with 2x optical zoom, and an ultra-wide camera with a 114-degree field of view. Additionally, two 32MP front cameras are positioned on both the cover and main displays. TECNO has also introduced AI-powered features to enhance the photography experience, including a magic eraser tool and specialized camera modes for the foldable display.
Phantom V Flip 2: Modern design and enhanced cover screen
The Phantom V Flip 2 is a clamshell-style foldable that boasts a 3.64-inch cover display, a massive upgrade over its predecessor’s smaller circular screen. The larger display allows for more functionality, including support for over 2,000 apps and customizable features like interactive pets and mini-games. The 6.9-inch foldable main display features Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, providing a crisp and fluid user experience.

Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8020 processor, the V Flip 2 is equipped with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, making it a powerful device for its size. The 4,720mAh battery, with 70W wired charging, can reach 50% in 15 minutes and fully charge in 43 minutes. Unlike the Fold 2, the Flip 2 does not support wireless charging, but its design is still engineered for durability with a hinge rated for 400,000 folds.
The camera setup includes two rear 50MP sensors: a main camera and an ultra-wide lens. A 32MP selfie camera is placed under the foldable screen, and the device supports TECNO’s FreeCam modes, allowing users to take hands-free selfies and group photos at various angles.

Competitive pricing and global availability
Both the Phantom V Fold 2 and Flip 2 are set to be available in key regions, including Africa, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America, starting September 23. The Phantom V Fold 2 will retail for approximately $1,099, while the Phantom V Flip 2 is priced at $699. These competitive prices make TECNO’s foldables a more affordable option compared to high-end models like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6, without compromising on features and performance.
TECNO has positioned its new foldable lineup as a viable alternative for consumers looking for premium features at a lower price point. With their stylish design, enhanced displays, powerful processors, and durable build, the Phantom V Fold 2 and Flip 2 are poised to challenge established competitors in the foldable smartphone market.
