Samsung’s latest One UI 6.1.1 update has been making waves, but not for the right reasons. While the update is being rolled out to devices like the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5, it appears to be causing a significant camera bug for some users, particularly those with the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The camera bug unveiled
Since the release of the One UI 6.1.1 update, numerous Galaxy S23 Ultra users have reported a frustrating issue with their camera’s zoom functionality. Specifically, the problem lies in the zoom capabilities of the camera. After the update, images captured at zoom levels between 16x and 19.9x appear blurry or grainy. This glitch detracts from the phone’s high-quality camera performance that many users had come to rely on.

User reports and possible workarounds
On various forums, including Samsung’s own community pages, users have shared their experiences and screenshots illustrating the problem. It’s clear that the issue is tied to the camera’s zoom function, with the ghosting effect becoming prominent when the intelligent optimization setting is turned up to maximum.

One suggested workaround, proposed by Tarun Vats—an expert who tracks One UI builds—is to lower the optimization setting to medium or minimum. While this might mitigate the issue temporarily, it’s far from an ideal solution. You shouldn’t have to fiddle with your camera settings to compensate for a software glitch that should have been addressed before release.
Samsung’s response and next steps
Samsung has acknowledged the problem, and their response indicates that they are working on a fix. A moderator on the Samsung Korea website confirmed that they have reproduced and verified the issue. “Yes, I have reproduced the issue you mentioned and confirmed the problem. I apologize for the inconvenience. We will prepare a fix for the problem as soon as possible,” was the response from Samsung’s support team.
However, as of now, Samsung has yet to make an official announcement about the fix. This lack of clarity leaves many users in limbo, unsure of when the problem will be resolved.
If you haven’t yet updated to One UI 6.1.1, it might be wise to hold off until Samsung provides a definitive fix. Although updates often bring new features and improvements, they can sometimes introduce unforeseen issues. Waiting for an official resolution could save you from the frustration of dealing with a buggy camera experience.
