Smartwatches under €100 compared: Which one is worth buying?

Cutting-edge technology on your wrist doesn’t have to be expensive, as our smartwatch comparison under 100 euros shows. We recommend 6 models worth buying below.

Those looking for a new smartwatch and don’t want to dig too deep into their wallets have more and more options. Fortunately, in addition to more expensive top models, there are now many high-quality but affordable smartwatches from various manufacturers on the market – such as Xiaomi, Samsung, or Huawei.

We recommend these 6 smartwatches under 100 euros

In this comparison, we present six current and recommended smart watches under 100 euros and show their advantages and disadvantages.

1. Xiaomi Redmi Watch 4

The well-known electronics manufacturer Xiaomi has various sub-brands that offer technology particularly in the lower price segment. One of these brands is Redmi. In addition to affordable smartphones, it also sells inexpensive smartwatches, such as the Redmi Watch 4. This is Redmi’s current top smartwatch model. The features are correspondingly diverse.

The rectangular smartwatch consists of a high-quality aluminum frame and has a rotatable crown on the side, with which you can easily operate the menus. The 1.97-inch AMOLED screen is not only the largest in our comparison but is also quite bright at 600 nits. An important point besides the large and bright display is the long battery life, which can be up to 20 days – also a top value in comparison.

In addition to many classic smartwatch features such as heart rate, step, blood oxygen, and sleep tracking, the equipment includes GNSS (GPS) location, water resistance up to 5 ATM, and an emergency function with which you can quickly notify your emergency contact. The watch is available in many different colors and straps and costs around 90 euros.

2. Amazfit Bip 5

The popular Bip series from Amazfit started with very inexpensive smartwatches that had an e-ink display and thus had an exceptionally long battery life. Meanwhile, the company has returned to regular screens for the Bip series – the Amazfit Bip 5 has a 1.91-inch rectangular TFT display. While this is a big leap in terms of brightness and color representation from an e-ink display, it still falls far short of the perfect black representation and high contrast of an AMOLED display.

This is the only device in the comparison that comes without an AMOLED display and therefore doesn’t support Always-on Display. AOD is not possible with display technologies like LCD or TFT, which have permanent backlighting, without significant losses in battery life, which, by the way, is up to 10 days for the Bip 5.

However, the Amazfit Bip 5 is still a full-fledged smartwatch: It has all the features typically found in smartwatches. Blood oxygen saturation and VO2max, i.e., the maximum blood oxygen saturation during a workout, can also be determined. You’ll be warned of abnormal heart rates. A special feature is that Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa is pre-installed on the watch, which costs around 90 euros.

  • Display size: 1.91″, TFT
  • Always-on display?: ✘ No
  • Battery life: up to 10 days
  • Number of sports modes: over 120
  • GPS capable?: ✔ Yes

3. Huawei Watch Fit 2

Unlike Xiaomi, Huawei doesn’t focus on cheap smartwatches. However, the Chinese electronics company, which has suffered major sales losses in the Western world in recent years due to U.S. trade restrictions, also offers cheaper models under 100 euros. This includes the Huawei Watch Fit 2 – a smartwatch that immediately catches the eye with its portrait format design.

At 1.74 inches, the rectangular screen is not larger than the displays of other watches in the comparison. However, the manufacturer is still proud of the AMOLED display. An important component of Huawei smartwatches is also personal “health management,” which is realized in the Watch Fit 2 with the “Healthy Living” technology. In the app, for example, you can set daily goals for staying fit that go beyond a daily step count or burned calories.

Thanks to animated quick workouts, you get precise instructions on how to correctly perform certain exercises directly on the watch. With up to 10 days, the battery life is average for the comparison. Not so the communication technologies: The Huawei Watch Fit 2 is the only smartwatch in the comparison that doesn’t offer support for GPS location. And that, even though Huawei charges around 100 euros for the watch – a shame. At least it’s available in many elegant and sporty variants.

  • Display size: 1.74″, AMOLED
  • Always-on display?: ✔ Yes
  • Battery life: up to 10 days
  • Number of sport modes: na
  • GPS capable?: ✘ No

4. Amazfit GTS 4 Mini

Back to the budget smartwatch brand Amazfit: In addition to the Bip devices, the company has been offering watches from the GTS series for several years. These are usually better equipped than the Bip models. This is also the case with the Amazfit GTS 4 Mini. The biggest difference: The GTS 4 Mini has a 1.65-inch AMOLED display. The watch also supports Always-on Display and there’s a diverse selection of watch faces.

The design of the watch is strikingly reminiscent of an Apple Watch – this recognition feature of the previous models has also been retained in the GTS 4 Mini. The battery life of up to 15 days is also impressive. With just one tap, you can measure three health values simultaneously, and after each workout, the performance is evaluated according to an algorithm programmed by Amazfit itself.

The water resistance up to 5 ATM and Zepp OS are also nice – the operating system doesn’t support Google Play Store or the installation of third-party apps at all, but Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa is pre-installed as with the Bip 5. The watch is available in four colors including color-matched straps and costs around 100 euros. If you can do without the approximately 0.4-inch larger display of the Amazfit Bip 5, we recommend this watch solely because of the higher quality display.

  • Display size: 1.65″, AMOLED
  • Always-on display?: ✔ Yes
  • Battery life: up to 15 days
  • Number of sports modes: over 150
  • GPS capable?: ✔ Yes

5. CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2

There are now few technology enthusiasts who haven’t heard of Nothing. A few years ago, OnePlus founder Carl Pei split from his company and promptly founded a second one – since then, Nothing has released three smartphones, five headphone models, and recently its second smartwatch, establishing itself as a brand with an extremely high recognition value.

However, the mentioned smartwatch comes from a sub-brand – CMF by Nothing. The CMF by Nothing Watch Pro 2 (there is no non-Pro model) adapts to the futuristic eye-catching design of other Nothing products with its metal frame and specially created watch faces. There’s a 1.32-inch AMOLED display that can get up to 620 nits bright. It’s the only model in this price range with a round display.

Beyond that, the features of the Watch Pro 2 are nothing special. There are a few practical features, such as a water drinking reminder, breathing exercises, and stress measurement. The battery life is a decent 11 days. The low price is impressive: With a recommended retail price of just 69 euros, it’s the cheapest model in the comparison.

  • Display size: 1.32″, AMOLED
  • Always-on display?: ✔ Yes
  • Battery life: up to 11 days
  • Number of sports modes: over 120
  • GPS capable?: ✔ Yes

6. Samsung Galaxy Fit3

Samsung offers you the Galaxy Fit3, a fitness tracker with smartwatch genes. On board are, among other things, snoring and fall detection. However, you’ll have to do without a GPS module. So for training, you’ll need to take your phone with you in addition to the tracker on your wrist.
