Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra to include satellite SOS function

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra is set to be officially unveiled in early 2025, but new details about the smartphone are already emerging. This time, the spotlight is on a feature that Apple has been offering on the iPhone for years. The new Ultra model is expected to include this feature, though a major question remains unanswered.

Since the iPhone 14, Apple has included a satellite SOS emergency function in its smartphones. Although Huawei quickly adopted this feature, it is only available in China. Similarly, Google’s Pixel 9 Pro (XL) offers this function, but only in the USA. Now, Samsung is reportedly adding a satellite feature to the Galaxy S25 Ultra (Source: GSMArena).

The upcoming Ultra smartphone from Samsung was recently spotted during the CCC certification process in China. It confirms that the phone will still support a maximum charging speed of 45 watts. Additionally, it reveals that the phone will come equipped with a satellite modem. This would allow for emergency calls via satellite when traditional mobile network connections are unavailable.

This is how the emergency call via satellite works on iPhone:

Will satellite emergency calls be available in Europe?

A major question remains whether this feature will be activated in Europe. Recent trends show that many new smartphones have fragmented hardware and software capabilities. A prime example is Google’s Pixel 9 series, which offers many AI features and satellite functions that are not available in some countries.

It will be interesting to see if Samsung becomes the first Android manufacturer to enable satellite communication in Europe with the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This technology is no longer new and is already integrated into many other devices, but it is not yet usable in Europe —unless you own an iPhone.
