DualSense controller price hike in the US

The gaming world has seen a significant shift in pricing trends. Unlike past console generations, the prices of gaming systems and accessories are no longer decreasing over time but are rising instead. This pattern became evident with the PlayStation 5, which, despite being on the market for four years, saw a controversial price increase in 2022.

Now, Sony is continuing this trend by raising the price of the DualSense controller in the US from $70 to $75. This increase applies to all color variants of the controller and has been reflected across retailers such as Best Buy and on the official PlayStation Store. According to VGC, this follows a larger price increase in Japan, where both the PS5 console and its controller became significantly more expensive.

European players face uncertainty

Following the price hikes in the US and Japan, European PlayStation 5 players may also soon be affected. Although Sony has not yet announced any price increases in Europe, the company’s pricing strategy suggests that further hikes could be on the horizon.

Additionally, the release of the rumored PS5 Pro could introduce another potential price shock for players. While the console has not been officially confirmed, leaks suggest that it will not be priced competitively. Much like the recent PSVR2 release, players may need to brace themselves for higher-than-expected costs when this new console becomes available.
